These struts are made as replacements for Leer camper shell windows, and they are probably perfect for that. I had a custom application in mind— to hold open a storage bay door on an RV. These are the right length and plenty strong enough, but I didn’t quite have enough clearance to use them. Nothing wrong with the struts— I just chose the wrong item for the job.Even though I did not leave them installed, they were very easy to install. Just use a small, flat-blade screwdriver to pry the spring clip up just a bit and then pop them onto the mounting balls and release the clip. Fortunately they are just as easy to remove, since I was not able to leave them in place.

I ordered these based on the size. It wasn’t until I decided on these that I saw the mention of a U.S. General Toolbox. These are also the exact dimensions of my very old Snap-on box. I only mention the box by name because the struts are no longer available, so these do not compete in any way.I was pleased that these literally snapped into place. Although the box lid probably weighs less than the Topper access door, it does stay shut and it opens with the lightest of touches.Overall, I am pleased with the results I got with these struts. With that, I gave it 5 stars because I am grateful that the lid will no longer slam down on me!

I am really pleased with these struts. I used these on a truck cap installed on a Toyota Tacoma (I don't believe it is Leer). I was using an umbrella to prop the window up (between the tailgate and the window) to protect myself from brain damage....that as you can imagine is less than ideal. Getting it fixed was one of those things you forget about.....until the next time the dang door (with your hands full) falls on your head and you don't have time to run to the automotive store. The struts that were already in place were 16" but when they worked it lifted the cap higher than needed. These 14" ones fit perfect, they work slicker than hen pooh. They were very easy to install, if this gives you any idea I am a female who had no idea these parts were even called struts. I think from the time I opened the package it took me less than 10 minutes to remove the old one and install them (one had already fallen off), and that included the time to get the screwdriver out of the tool box. The instructions were also clear and simple (it's how I knew how to uninstall the old ones), installing them just requires popping them into place, (even I had that figured out haha) but if you need them the instructions are there. Now most of you probably won't even need the instructions, but if you are like me it did come in handy.I feel like these are just as good if not better quality than the ones I removed. The best thing of all...the door opens smooth AND stays open. I couldn't be happier!

I ordered these as a replacement for the original gas struts on my topper. They were easy to install and fit perfectly. They work as expected and are strong enough to hold up the glass.

These lift support shocks fit perfectly on my old Lear fiberglass truck bed cap with a glass rear window. The old shocks I had on there were blown out, leaking, and wouldnt support the rear glass anymore. I was really afraid that one day it would come crashing down on me and shatter the back glass. These lift support shocks were way cheaper than what the parts store wanted, and they were the correct size 100%. They made a huge difference in holding the back glass up. It almost pulled it out of my hand when i opened the back for the first time. I dont know much about durability yet, but if i run into any issues i will be sure to update this review
