These rear gate supports fit fine and are working well on my 2017 Subaru Forester. There are YouTube videos to help with the installation. While the project seems fairly straight forward, I encourage do-it-yourselfers to watch a couple of the videos before taking on this project. Very helpful.

This product works well. A things of note: It doesn't come with bolts or the gasket sheet, so make sure you keep them from your original unit. Also, make sure the unit is screwed down all the way as it will be too long if unscrewed evenly slightly. Other than, good product and holding up after several weeks.

They were easy to install with the trick to do both at the same time using some lumber to hold the lift gate up and a narrow crescent wrench for the ball end. At first they did not work to hold it up but I had installed them upside down. When changed so the strut was at the lower end of the bracket on the car it was fine. Note that there are left and right struts. The old one had to be cut off at the ball socket to remove it.

These are stronger than the OEM ones from Subaru. So, YES they lift up super easy...BUT it takes a fair bit more effort to close the lift gate (as my GF needs 2 hands and much more force to do so).One point when installing, put in the liftgate 'ball' screws first, as far you can, then install the 2 supplied screws into the wall of the car. Then go back with a 13mm wrench and tighten up the lift gate all the way. These are a PITA, as there is NO room to turn the wrench, as the rubber bumper is in the way !

After not being able to install these on my 2018 Forester (too long, it seemed), I was ready to return them. Luckily I hit on the trick to installing them, and want to share that here. I didn't find this information in any of the YouTube videos, even though it seems obvious in hindsight. At first I tried removing one strut and installing the replacement, before progressing to the second one. This seemed like the easiest way. However, the new struts are slightly longer than the original factory ones, and the screws wouldn't line up with the holes. Also the cylinders are really strong, so there's no safe way to compress them to a shorter length.Luckily, I noticed the old strut was keeping the hatch from opening any further, and decided to remove both old ones before installing. This made all the difference. With both cylinders off, the hatchback opened far enough that I could easily line up the screws on the new ones, and all is good. The quality of the lifts is good, BTW. Hope this saves someone else some frustration.
