Our Company History

In 1928, at the age of twenty-two, Peter Beilenson began printing books on a small press in the basement of his parents’ home in Larchmont, New York. Peter--and later, his wife, Edna--sought to create fine books that sold at prices even a pauper could afford.

Today, still family owned and operated, Peter Pauper Press continues to honor our founders’ legacy and our customers’ expectations of beauty, quality, and value.

I bought this for a young man that is learning to paint. This is one of his Christmas presents I bought for him. It arrived on time and in great condition can't wait for him to open them.

After ordering these, I read some reviews and became concerned. However, my lack was in perfect condition, the paints are quality, go on thick, look great and wash up fine.

Not happy!! Every single tube was dried out. After poking a hole in the top of the tube with the convenient hole punctured on the cap, I squeezed the tube and nothing happened squeezed harder and the sides of the tube gave a little. Checked the hole with a tooth pick and nothing on the toothpick. Squeezed one more time. The bottom of the tube burst open and a thick paste oozed out slightly. It was so dry I couldn't even get any on my finger after touching it. Conveniently, all 24 tubes were pretty much the same. And since it was past the return date, couldn't do anything but trash them.My sad tale.

Soooooooooooooooo....I've been a bit of a paint snob over the years... I love my studio quality Daler & Rowney - Georgian and Winsor & Newton for my oils, and I've always, without fail, used Grumbacher and studio quality Liquidtex for my acrylics and... last but not least... studio grade Sennelier for my egg tempera.Very recently a good friend of mine sent me some paints to try that are marketed and labeled by Peter Pauper as Studio Series Acrylic Paint. You get 24 small tubes of paint - 12ml (.4floz) in a plastic kit. The price is incredibly inexpensive.I was very skeptical. It has the look of a beginner's kit. But it was a gift and I tried them out yesterday. However I opened the mediocre packaging and the tubes are studio quality metal tubes. That was a surprise. So I dabbed the tiniest amount of paint on my pallet - it's smooth, thick, consistency is perfect... and then I began to paint with a sable acrylic brush.WOW!!! This is an acrylic paint that spreads like an oil. I need a fingernails amount with a dash of water to cover a good area of canvas (that is still damp with gesso). It dries a bit slower than Liquidtex, but, as usual, it dries quickly like most acrylics. It has a really odd smell to it however, that does dissipate as the paint dries. But on the sniff there's no way I would identify this paint as oil or acrylic. It has an oil shine to it when it dries and the colours don't fade as they dry either. The pigment is reliable like oil.

Very pleased by this. Better quality than expected and exactly as shown. Really nice array of colors, enough that many more colors can be made through mixing. I bought this for painting miniatures for gaming and it was perfect for an amateur like me.
