About this item

  • EASY OPERATION - Effortlessly open and close the 3rd Gen Tacoma’s heavy hood with just one hand - no more fighting the prop rod or slamming the hood.
  • SELECTABLE HOOD HEIGHT - Spiker Engineering’s exclusive ULTIMATE Lift system allows you to set the hood opening height anywhere between stock and up to 8 inches higher, for unparalleled lighting and access to your projects. Ideal when ditch lights or other items may limit the raised hood height. Hood height can be easily changed, without having to buy a new kit.
  • PREMIUM QUALITY COMPONENTS – Kit comes complete with all items needed for installation - two enameled black gas springs, gloss black powder coated mounting brackets, and heavy duty multigrip rivets (including an extra). Even a drill bit stopper is included, to make drilling safer. Our kits are 100% made in USA, and are backed by 5 year warranty.
  • EASY INSTALLATION - Installation can usually be completed in under 30 minutes. A full color detailed installation manual is included, along with links to how-to installation videos. A standard mechanics tool set and a rivet gun are required.
  • COMPATIBILITY - Designed to work with all stock 3rd Gen Tacomas (2016 to 2023). Manual transmission models with fender-mounted clutch fluid reservoir require small spacers between the inner fender and the clutch reservoir to provide clearance for the gas springs. You can make your own spacers, or get the needed standoffs and high strength bolts directly from us. Details included in instructions.

I have now installed a set of Spiker Hood shocks on my 23 Tacoma. Spiker brand gives you the option of hood height adjustment up to 8 inches over stock, I went with 3" and they work great. The only problem I had was installing the upper brackets on the hood spiker suggest you place them in the valley of the hood and drill the hole, this did not work for me as the holes were too close too the material too install the pop rivets. Also there bracket is sort of a triangle the third hole is not used. 2. I also installed a set of redline hood shocks on my friends 22 tacoma, the set he ordered did not allow the adjustment in height as they were standard height of the Taco hood with the hood support bar up. Much harder to pull down than the Spiker brand. The upper brackets ,they are much easier to install, but both sets do require measurements which requires two people for hold and marking.. I much prefer installing the spiker brand over the redline brand.

I bought a new 2023 Toyota Tacoma last fall. I had no idea they did not come with hood opening assistance. This is a very heavy hood for a medium sized truck. I installed these Spiker struts and what a difference it makes for this old man. It now raises slightly when the interior hood latch is released. Allowing me to get my hand under the hood to release hood latch. It gentle raises the hood automatically. I installed them so it opens higher than stock but still reachable to close. Great - easy to install solution!

These hood struts are amazing! I keep opening the hood just to impress my wheeling buddies. I researched hood struts for a while and chose these because they are the only ones that let you open the hood to whatever height you want as opposed to the manufacturer's preset height. Solid and professional construction. Works exactly as advertised - or even better! Easy-to-understand and straightforward instructions in clear English. Love that it's made in the USA. Seller was super responsive to a question I had, even though It was somewhat unrelated to the struts. I wish Spiker Engineering had been around years ago - would have made things much easier!
