Do not waste your money. These units are not up to specification for application, weak and will not stay onto joints on frame and hatch. Will knock your brains out when suddenly they come loose. Pieces of crap. Waste completely of money.

Product is extremely sturdy, almost to a fault. I installed these on my 95 Jeep Cherokee and have to hold the lift gate to prevent the hinges from ripping. It takes roughly 60-70 pounds of force to get them to compress. Prepare for a workout.

At first when the plastic ends did not stay connected at the hindge side of the lift gate i wanted to return them, then i realized the plastic threads off and the original steel ends (that hold) of the old shocks will thread onto the new ones at either end , i hope this helps anybody who's flustrated, snag some steel ends off old junk yard xjs and upgrade both ends

I bought an old 1995 Cherokee several years back, used, and the struts on the back hatch were dead, mainly during cold weather. I used vice grips to hold the hatch up in wintertime. Finally I decided to replace them and ordered this set, well actually two sets. I found them difficult to install, and ruined one of the first set of two. I bought a second set and finally got two of the supports installed. It wasn't easy. Was it the fault of the struts or the Jeep? I don't know. Anyway, now that two are installed, the hatch springs up when opened, and it takes a bit of muscle to close it. I'm quite satisfied, and they weren't too expensive.
