We drive all older vehicles. By old, I mean 20 to 25 years old. What’s cool is that we have no car payments and get by with the least expensive Personal Liability/Property Damage insurance available.But the “cost” of driving these old standbys is that they need regular upkeep and generally have at least one thing go bad at a time.In the case of our old 2001 Lincoln Navigator, the rear hatch struts had lost their oomph. We not only had to work very hard to open the hatch; we also had to use a carefully trimmed board to hold the hatch open so as not to get clunked in the head while loading or unloading cargo. It was worse on a cold day.These easily installed after not-so-easily removing the old ones. But that has been our experience on all DIY auto repairs—the hardest part is removing the old equipment.No more head clunks!

My 07 TBSS had a strut going out, so you had to help it along, especially when cold. This kit was nice. The hardest part was getting off the bars, which helped keep them compressed during shipping. They even put a small screwdriver in the box to pop the clips off. These new ones feel strong. The gate opens so much better now.
