Exact replacement but shiny chrome. The key fits inside a bit different than the original. I hope it breaks in and becomes easier. I would buy this again. Great price!

You can’t lock or unlock it without the key in it. This is not a replacement cylinder and I’m not even sure the purpose of this lock. What’s the point of only locking/unlocking with the key, if I can’t lock/unlock when I’m in the house!!? Don’t bother buying this.

Bought this to replace a cylinder that came with a garage door deadbolt style lock. This unit is so superior to what was included with the lock. It’s truly a night-and-day difference. This lock is not only solid brass construction, but the full cylinder shape extends the length of the screw holes. The tab that extends into the lock (sorry, I’m a DIYer, there’s probably a term for it) is much more solid and rigid than the stamped steel piece on the OEM cylinder. Other reviewers have described how bad the stamped steel OEM stuff is, including the denting from screws overextended to the cylinder faceplate. I would not be nearly as worried about that with this unit. It just feels much more like a front door deadbolt cylinder level of construction. Even the included hardware like the trim ring, backplate and screws were well made. I sure wish there was a garage door lock kit with this cylinder included, would have saved some cash and hassle.No instructions included - you will have to figure out how and where/if to cut the screws and tab. I used a dremel cutting wheel for both and that worked great. I learned a lot from installing the OEM cylinder originally, so go look up install videos if you’re a total novice like me and don’t want to risk damaging a cylinder.Lastly, I really wish this were easier to find. No fault of anybody other than maybe online garage door parts sellers not telling us how awful their cylinders are.

FINALLY: A lock-cylinder that's built solid; and not of cheap,, porous 'pot-metal'...! Unlike several previous replacement lock-cylinders I'd purchased for my garage roll-up door (at a lower price-point), those other locks were all very cheaply-made, were light-weight and the metal was weak. THIS (Segal) cylinder is solid metal, feels substantial and will take more of a beating than the cheaper cylinders will. This cylinder weighs about 4 times what the cheaply-made ones weigh. Also, the mechanism is machined with a higher level of precision; making it so that the keys work incredibly smoothly. The only thing to be aware of though: If your garage-door is a thinner type, you may need to add a lock-washer to the 2 screws that hold the cylinder-assembly in the door; to provide extra depth. This lock ships with a long 'tail-piece'; which you can easily cut to the size you require. It also comes with 'segmented' retaining-screws; which you can also easily cut to fit your application. Keys are easily available at Home Depot (Blank #77) if you need copies. Due to the better machining and higher tolerances involved, the particular cylinder I purchased offered better than normal resistance to picking. (I'm a former Locksmith). If you want upgraded quality for your (garage) lock-cylinder, this is a good choice.
