I got this heating pad for our dental compressor. It’s set up in a bad location inside where it has actually frozen in the past under very cold weather conditions. In order to avoid our compressor from freezing, I’ve added this heating pad to surround the compressor to prevent the compressor from freezing. These heating pads heat up and conduct heat fairly evenly. They arrived folded, which isn't great for the heating elements/coils. There are supposed to be two temperature settings, one at 25°C and the other at 50°C, but there is no way to select the temperature on these mats. The advertised feature of temperature selection just isn’t there and that’s the main reason for 4 stars.

These are great heating pads for your RV. They come in a three pack, one for each of your tanks. They do use 110 volt, so if you spend a lot of time boondocking, then you need the 12 volt versions. I do most of my winter camping with power, so these work well for me. They have 3M brand sticky on the back. Make sure your tank is clean of debris and dirt, peel the backing off and stick in place. Then route your cord. On my trailer, I was able to use an outdoor extension cord to connect to two tanks and route to a spare plug where my fridge is. The water tank one had a plug near by for me to plug into.

Since we purchased our RV last year, I have been considering putting heating pads on all my tanks. I chose to use the 120V pads over the 12V ones because we almost always use shore power, and when the temperature gets cold, the 120V pads do a better job of putting out heat. Here in the northwest, temperatures can get pretty chilly, so a good heating pad on our fresh tank will help our tankless water heater to perform much better in cooler weather. The pads come in a set of three – one each for the fresh water, gray and black tanks. I am impressed by them. I plugged one of these 120V heating pads in and the temperature went up quickly and levelled off. The 3M backing covers the whole of the tank side of the pads and is very sticky. The set did not come with directions, but applying these pads to the tanks is straightforward and YouTube has several instructional videos that cover the installation of heating pads. The biggest challenge will be to remove the underbelly to get to our tanks. I will install them as soon as I can when weather permits, and when I do, I will provide a more thorough update for this review.

I do not as yet have a gray tank in my skoolie renovation to tiny home on wheels. What I have is a 40 gal fresh water tank sitting atop the driver's side wheelwell of the bus. That is also right under bus windows as well. So while I haven't been anywhere really cold yet, I have added two of these to the front and back of the water tank. It was already strapped down and while the third one could go under the tank on the wheelwell, I don't really want to take the tank up off the strapping and metal frame it is in right now. Because these are 12V, I added them directly to the 12V wiring side of my electrical system and attached them to a pair of rocker switches so that if it is cold, I can flip the switch on the two of them and keep my water from freezing. Very good idea, though I do think there could be some improvements like some sort of temp gauge so you can monitor the water temp in cold weather and maybe have these set up to come on if the water goes below, say 40 degrees. Just a thought!
