Only used the trolling plate once and it broke. Very disappointing. Didn’t try using it right away so past date to return. Waste of money.

I spent several hours researching this item and according to the listing description and some reviews this should have fit the 2022 Yamaha F9.9 outboard I have. I even went as far as looking up photos and tried to measure using a digital ruler the space between the pre-drilled holes. I also emailed Davis Instruments with no replies. The pre-drilled holes are too wide apart in any direction that there is absolutely no way you can drill this into the anti-cavitation plate. It is the sellers responsibility to back up their claims that this will fit ANY outboard under 25HP. They should have also provided images that at least show the measurements of the unit and the distance between each pre-drilled holes so customers could verify before making a purchase. This seller will not offer refunds so if you are unsure if this will fit on your outboard, or if it will work properly, or if it will arrive damaged….Then avoid this seller at all costs.Terrible service and lack of responsibility to the end user.0 Stars.

Very easy to install. Could be made of better materials but works great. In order for the ease of working a person must read and follow the intructions to make it work right.

Not crazy about it being white in colour. My outboard motor and boat is black. It was an easy install and works well.

Works just as I had hoped. I installed it on a 25hp mercury 2 stroke. And after testing it in the water a few times I was comfortable selling off the kicker motor and saved that weight in my small boat.

Works very well, definitely slows my boat down when I need it to. We got my 9.9hp trolling motor on a 25ft boat from about 1.5mph down to like 0.5-0.8mph. I figured I wouldn’t need this since I had a small trolling motor with autopilot, but this gives me the ability to go even slower and fine tune my speed. Unfortunately while I was backing in my boat at a launch, a family member slipped with the rope and the boat ended up turning rear end into the dock and put a crack halfway through the plate. It held up during the trip, when I got home I let it dry and then took a hot soldering gun and plastic welded it. It has been holding up well ever since, I was glad with that much force it did not shear off, I’m happy it broke and took the damage and not my motor or my prop, especially since it was an easy fix. I would definitely recommend this, it is not cheap plastic. Only issue I had was I tightened one of the bolts a little too much and snapped the bolt. Grabbed one out of the garage and put it on, the one I put on was not rust resistant like the ones that come with it and it is rusted. The other 3 bolts look brand new with no rust.

Put on my new honda 9.9 as the slowest it would go was 3.3km. I was very worriedAbout drilling into my brand new motor. Once mounted and in the water I can troll as low as 0.5km. I am back to slaying walleye and lakers once again. After countless hours of use the only issue I have is that in order to get it to lock down I have to jiggle the rope to get the assembly to lock. Not a big deal.

This worked great slowing down my old Evinrude 18 hp Fastwin. I was able to get down to speeds as low as .5 mph and up to 1 1/2 mph with out putting hardly any strain on the plate. I didn't know if I was going to be a fan of the poly construction vs. aluminum but after holding the product and using it my opinion has changed. This is really well constructed.I never once had to reach down to lift it up to engage in the forward position. I know this was mentioned by another reviewer. All you have to do when installing it, ensure that there is no interference with the plate, move it up and down prior to drilling your holes. if you see the black release bar touching any part of your Lower Unit then move it so it doesn't. This will ensure smooth operation. While in gear simply pull your release rope, the plate will be in free mode and as you increase the throttle the plate will lock in the upright position.I highly recommend this to anyone that is looking for slowing down there outboard for trolling speeds!

I bought it four years ago to slow down my mercury 15 hp and it worked !!! I had to shave an inch off bottom because it was slowing down my trolling speed too much. It didn' t break either when i accidentally left in down position and accelerating ( cutting that inch off bottom helped with that too). It went trough four years of tough water/river fishing and never broke, it is very hard/tough material and infact it was very hard to cut that inch in the bottom. Would not hesitate to buy again.

I originally thought this product was made of metal, just a smaller version of the Davis Happy Troller. It is a smaller model, but made of high grade polymers which is super light. Installed it myself, works great!! The mechanism to bring the plate up and down works as expected. You might want to punch holes in the plate, it will slow your boat quite alot when locked down at 90 degrees. Tip - just from my personal use: when fishing against wind, the plate down was too slow and up a bit too fast. I dropped the plate when already in gear, therefore, the plate would not go down all the way to the lock 90 degree position, but the spring was pulling it down to some sort of 45 degrees which was the perfect speed for trolling that day against wind. Try different things, very handy!
