It’s almost like the strut is too short and prevents the tailgate from opening properly and it will pop out of its hinge

Maybe this works with other trucks, but not with my 2015 Tacoma. As mentioned in other Tacoma reviews, there is not enough space for this plus the existing cable retainer between the tail gate and the light. It almost broke my light on the first go and was never able to close the tail gate. It does work great when you let the tail gate down, just cant close it.... Seems like a design issue.... lol.

Tailgate opens nice, however there was not enough room for cable so I am going without one cable--seemsOK I sat on strut side (180#) seemed fine, still catches slightly but works good.

Easy to install, great idea, but one of those aftermarket parts that just isn’t worth it. Installed on my 2014 Tacoma; it made my tailgate slide to the opposite side on its hinges making a visible gap on the installed side and extremely tight fit to my taillight on the other side.With the added equipment it makes the tailgate cord pinch very sharply and after a few test runs, the cord would stick out between the tailgate and the tail light.Great idea in theory; the hardware and instructions are a piece of cake. I’m not comfortable having this ruin other parts on my truck. Not worth the assisted lowering to me.
