1. The actual cutting edge of the hoe is probably somewhere near a 1075 grade steel. A nail will not scratch it. The down side is that it was water quenched. I can tell this, because the whole think is coated in some kind of sticky wax. Isopropyl alcohol is the only thing that will remove it. It leaves a very sticky black residue. Now that I've removed the wax coating it will rust. This could have been avoided with an oil quench.2. The bevel on the blade is poorly ground. The very ends of the bevels are square and have no sharpness. The very edge is ragged at best.3. The blade is poorly welded to the handle hilt. Unground welds are rough and they usually have a tendency to easily brake!Only one hole in the hilt. I will have to drill it through to bolt it to the handle.
