So ultimately, these didn't work for me - but I gave them 3 stars because I am assuming I may be the problem here. So, read my review with a grain of salt - especially if you know a lot about Pickleball/plan to use these regularly on an actual Pickleball court.I'm a new pickleball player and I got a large set that came with paddles and balls. I wasn't sure what type of balls were included in the kit and had forgotten to check so I just ordered these on a whim since I figured they'd be of higher quality for outdoor play anyways. We played at our local parts tennis court (we used a pickleball marking kit to draw out the lines) - but I was a little disappointed to find that these balls did NOT bounce very well at all on that surface. It was a struggle for us all to consistently get them over the net for a full play (even the seasoned pickleball player who was teaching us!)Again, I don't know too much about Pickleball or the surface you are supposed to play on. I am assuming it's different, and in that case, maybe these will work better there. We ended up just using the balls that came with the paddle set I got, and those worked fantastic on the tennis court surface. So, again, take this review with a grain of salt. Ultimately, they do work! You just have to wack them super hard, as well as just be mindful with where you plan to play at.

I play pickleball recreationally, so starting out I used whichever ball was available, which usually meant a non-approved USAPA ball. As I continue to play pickleball and develop my skills, I’ve made the switch to playing with USAPA-approved balls. What a difference it has been. When I saw these Takeya balls, I knew I had to try them. Out of the box, they looked and felt good with uniform weight and size. The color is high-visibility so they are easy to see when playing, especially during intense rallies at the kitchen. They have a consistent bounce and perform well in different weather. Of course, they are still going to be affected by wind, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well they performed during a mildly windy day, and for the most part, they maintained their trajectory. I’ve used other USAPA-approved pickleball balls and these Takeya balls performed just as well, no better or worse, but when comparing the price to the other brands, Takeya comes in higher. I’ll enjoy using the Takeya balls while they last, but question purchasing them again if the price remains higher than comparable brands.

I have tested quite a few pickleballs intended to be tournament grade balls. So many of them fall short in quality or durability. I am 100% impressed with the quality of these balls and would say they are the best alternative to the X40 and Dura balls. I evaluated weight consistency of all of the balls I have tested. These were absolutely the most consistent in terms of weight of all balls. All of them were within 0.1 gram of each other. The big name brands have way more variance across a set of balls based on my testing. From a visual inspection, these are consistent with no obvious imperfections. I often find small defects in the drilled holes of some of the big name balls and those seem to be the places where those balls eventually crack. These have about the same bounce from a drop as an X40 but they have a slightly harder feel. Many of the balls I tested start to get softer or begin to lose their roundness after a number of games. Some do this after just a couple of games. The X40s might give me a 2-3 days of gameplay before they start to soften up. I also find that they get measurably lighter as the plastic starts to wear from contact with the court and paddles. Much to my surprise, I weighed one of these Takeya balls after 3-4 days of intensive play and it pretty much retained its weight. So far I have gotten 8 days of intensive gameplay out of a single ball and it has remained playable while very used much to my surprise. These balls don't get as scuffed up as a typical X40. I assume this has something to do with whatever their plastic formulation is. I've had testers describe the ball as feeling thicker than an X40 despite weighing very close to the 26 gram spec. With this difference in durability you are probably getting almost twice the life out of each of these balls which is huge.My only complaint is that these are currently only available in a 4-pack (Sep 2023) so they are priced accordingly (about $3.18/ball). I would really like to see these offered in bulk quantities and that would definitely get me to switch. TAKEYA, please add 12, 24, even a 100 pack option.

I'm a reasonably high level player, and can be quite picky with off brand balls as you never know what to expect, some I've loved, these I have not. I expected these to be somewhat comparable to Franklin X-40's, but no. I'm not sure if I got a defective batch while they ramp up production but the bounce was comparable to the difference between a Dura and and X-40, just in the wrong direction from an X-40. I'm not sure why they're built this way but I was definitely not expecting them to have so little bounce for the price. It was a 94 degree day outside, but rapidly switched to an X-40 which performed as expected, if these behave more expectedly in lower temperatures I will update my review, but if I didn't then you know what to expect. Considering Takeya is a major sponsor of the PPA, I was really expecting more, and even more so considering they're even more expensive than a Franklin. - Wouldn't recommend.
