I used a six foot pipe wired to the hood release hook and braced with the ground to support the hood while I made the swap. The instructions recommend that you get a helper to hold the hood, which is probably just as safe.For those who haven't done this job before, it should be noted that the release clips are not supposed to be pried off during replacement. A screwdriver can be used to move the clips toward the end of the rod, at which point the clips are spread enough to release the ball mount. Opening the clips on the new strut ahead of time makes installation so much easier.The cylinder end connector is the smaller one and attached to the hood, which is opposite of the OEM strut on my Camry.

The entire process took just a few minutes on our 2006 Toyota Camry, and the only tool needed was a small, flat-head screwdriver. Remove the old lift support by prying loose the metal band on the socket connectors and pop them off the ball. Loosen the metal bands on the new lift support, pop the new lift onto each ball stud, pushing the bands flush, and you’re done. Works perfectly.Definitely helpful to have a 2nd person to hold up the hood while replacing. Repair shop would easily have charged 3-4 times as much for item markup + labor.

Great price and it's stronger than the original Hood Lift Support was when it was new. When I installed this, I was a little concerned because it was so stiff but it soon loosened up and it's perfect now. It lifts the hood nicely and holds it in the open position perfectly. I bought this as a open box and it saved me a bunch, the packaging was a little damaged but the lift support was in new condition.
