Jimmie Vaughan's first solo album includes a subdued country-gospel-blues eulogy for his late brother Stevie Ray in the form of "Six Strings Down," written by Art and Cyril Neville. The bulk of the recording, though, comes in the form of the relentless, Texas-blues rave-ups that made Jimmie the solid rock at the base of the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Dr. John gives a New Orleans shuffle to two songs he cowrote with Jimmie, but more typical is the first single, "Boom-Bapa-Boom," which boasts a hypnotic rhythm perfectly described by its title. Jimmie's refusal to play an unnecessary note makes his grooves irresistible. --Rickey Wright

Jimmie Vaughan knows the Blues & he knows his guitar; "Strange Pleasure" wears all of its influences on its sleeve, then interprets & translates it into something that steps outside, & back in - this album is well worth the listen!

Amazing Jimmie. It was a shame the jewel case was badly damaged, but this was a replacement disc so luckily I have the original packaging. I haven’t heard this in over ten years, we’ll worth the wait .... JV is just too cool. If you haven’t heard Jimmie Vaughan, you haven’t heard blues ....

This album by Stevie Ray Vaughan's older brother was recommended by a friend. It is a fine album of superb musicianship proving that Stevie Ray wasn't the only superb guitarist in the family.

This cd fly , fly , fly, way above the sky...every song on this cd rocks, jimmie is a commercial and progressive version of his brother(stevie ray vaughan) he experiment with a little bit of jazz, rock, blues and a little bit of soul...like "sweet soul vibe" but my favorite is "two wings" it has a churchy gospel beat to it that'll have your feet stomping. I first bought it in cassette ten years ago until the cassette player chewed it up, I tried to look for it but it was hard to find, and then I found it on amazon.com thank you amazon , because this is one of my favorite over all cd's and I won't have to look no further for other cd's by jimmie vaughan just go straight to the source....AMAZON
