Unfortunately this product is not suited for hanging baskets because the drip cannot cover a large wide area. It’s suited for small potted plants. The flow can be adjusted using a formula which is included with the item.

Great idea but after many attempts to adjust flow they would either empty in less than 24 hours or stop flow altogether. I gave it my best effort but have abandoned these for a drip system.

First of all the bottles do not have a secure fit on to the spike, which makes it very easy to topple over if caught by the wind outdoors, where I had intended to use them when away for a couple when away during hot weather. However, even when set the waterer to the slowest drip speed the water was still all gone by end of the day….not even 12 hours. I have no idea how others have made these work!

I'm glad I bought these well before my vacation so I could test them. Essentially, the drip valve is extremely sensitive. From the off position, I can turn it 1 or 2 mm to open and it drips once per second which is too much. I need this valve range to be from off to 1 drip per second - over the full thread length (5-10 turns). If I open the valve 1 full turn, the bottle empties within minutes. I'm glad the valve threads are very thin as this allows me to tweak the setting, but it is very frustrating trying to find that perfect setting. The valve design needs to be rethought.The rest of the product is very good. The spike is strong and able to hold a 1 litre bottle without tipping. The valve filter is a great idea keeping the valve from clogging.I will probably need more of these, but I'm going to shop around next time.

I purchased these to help with keeping surface soil dry & control watering. I had gnats in a few house plants. I use several methods & tools to deter & get rid of them quickly, this is one of them. East insert 500 ml bottle & adjustable water flow. I positioned it with lower flow & closer to soil line. The bright colours make them look nicer. Well worth the $$. Would also be excellent tool for watering plants when away for a week or so.

My first review of this "watering spike" was based upon reading the instructions provided with the package. Unfortunately the listed 4 steps don't describe how the device works and what are its limitations. First of all when you fill up a plastic bottle with water, put the spike on and reverse it, you immediately loose some water from the bottle because the air pressure inside the bottle has to be compensated by the outside air pressure. Then there is the problem with correct tightening of the dripping valve. The whole device is very sensitive to rocking motion, for instance from wind. and sudden changes in atmospheric pressure.I may recommend it as a "last resort" watering solution for a few days at home for small planters however its usefulness in the yard/ outdoor garden may be very unpredictable.

Material is good quality plastic won't brake when you push it in even hard soil. Assembly is easy not complicated. Just filled bottle use you thumb to cover bottle mouth and put it in spike. It's very useful when you are going on vacation just use big 2L bottle so it last few days. The only problem i found is after few days of use when you refill bottle you have to readjust flow of water sometimes it blocked. Overall it's good product.
