Installation Steps: (Please remember to wear protective gear when installing.)
1.Remove right inner panel in trunk. (Spring/shock assembly is now visible).
2.Firmly hold the trunk lid up. Remove the retainer clip that holds the rear side of the shock to the mount.
3.Remove the entire spring/shock assembly.
4.Compare new assembly with the old one.
5.Place the new shock in its mounts, the far mount first then the close monut.
6.Reattach the retainer clip removed earlier.
7.Reattach the right inner trnuk panel removed eailier.

I installed both sides quite easily. However, the springs arrived without instructions, so I had to rely on the information provided on the Amazon product listing. While there are several instructional videos on YouTube, none of them mention the black pins that need to be removed and reinserted. Additionally, they don't explain that the right (longer) 'return' spring is designed to slow down the trunk opening at the top. Once you grasp these details, the installation becomes straightforward, and the springs function very effectively.

Tried to install the spring (OEM 5124 7204 367) to the passenger side of car, because the trunk would swing open wildly. The open-end portion fit well with the trunk hook; however, the closed-end portion wouldn't slip securely into the ball catch which is attached to the car’s chassis. When I closed the trunk, the spring tension would lessen and the spring would slip off the ball catch; thus, causing the spring to swing back and forth loosely. I tried for an hour or more, but always with the same results. Afterwards, I bought the same OEM part number 5124 7204 367 directly from BMW and installed it in vehicle. The closed-end portion of the spring popped right in to the ball catch first time and with very little effort. The trunk opens and closes properly now. I would recommend purchasing the BMW product instead. It’s more expensive, but will save you time and effort.

The ball sockets are a tad bit too small. I had to force it on both sides. It’s on there for now so I’ll just wait and see if it slips off. If it dies I’ll be asking for a refund.
