Your cart is empty.Soul Blues superstar Bobby Rush is known for his elaborate stage shows and sexy dancers, but on his new CD RAW he returns to his rural blues roots. RAW finds Rush mostly alone with his acoustic guitar and harmonica, assisted only by Shawn Kellerman's dobro guitar on three of the thirteen tracks. Rush's approach here is restrained but authorative, particularly on the civil rights commentary, "How Long", which addresses the unfulfilled promise of forty acres and a mule.

A talented guy - whether as a soloist or with a group.Actually heard him doing some great kid songs to a family audience on National Train Day - a few years back at Chicago's Union Station.

I have seen Bobby Rush several times live and always come away with my feet tappin' and a smile on my face...Unfortunately, after purchasing a few of his cds, I was deeply skeptical of buying anymore. Too much synthesizer and not enough real instruments. Luckily, I was able to listen to these cuts before purchasing RAW. This is downhome acoustic blues of absolute first rate quality....Having heard Bobby play stellar harmonica in-person (albeit he only plays harmonica live on a few numbers) and on the best cuts from his synthesizer laden albums--I was thrilled that he really lets loose with the Mississippi Saxaphone on this baby...This is one of the best blues albums I bought in the past year or so...and I highly recommend it....the gruvemeister...

RAWByBobby RushDeep Rush Visuals, 2007Blues lovers will find a lot to like in this album. Raw features fourteen tracks, including the bonus "Bobby Rush for President." This is blues at its most basic, a skilled bluesman with an acoustic guitar, a harmonica and foot stamping percussion, the perfect combination to showcase Bobby Rush's unique musical talents at their best.Eleven original numbers are featured in this collection plus three covers, "Boney Maroney," "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl," and "Howlin' Wolf," which the artist slows down to a ballad that reverberates with power in his remarkable interpretation.A good mix of tunes is included. "What's the Use," and "I'm Tired," speak of the common man's economic situation and "How Long," addresses the struggles of African Americans and promises made and broken. "9 Below Zero" and "You Don't Love Me," are songs of love gone wrong. The rollicking "I Got 3 Problems" features fantastic acoustic guitar and harmonica work and "Glad to Get You Back," one of the most outstanding tracks on the album, is one of three songs featuring a Dobro played with a bottleneck slide.Raw has been nominated for the Blues Music Award "Album of the Year," and one thing is certain. It is a savory dish of blues seasoned with a dash of funk and soul that should tempt any listener's palate.-- Shannon Riley
