This is a replacement for a very old doorknob. The old solid wood door is thinner than most doors today and it isn't possible to get a replacement at a local hardware store. I was hopeful that this would fit without too much difference, but wouldn't have been surprised if it didn't. And, although the installation wasn't completely smooth, it did work out after some adjustment. I'm glad it did since it was the only possibility I was able to find and we now have a working door. Fast shipping too.

Very cheap thin metal. Looks very low quality. Skeleton key would not even open it.

first off, i thought these were standardized into 2 types, but apparently i was wrong because it was not an exact replacement. the new hole for the shaft was close enough that the escution covered the old hole, but the key hole was way off. as this was for a passage door, i just didnt drill it and left the lock inoperable.that said, these are going for a CRAZY price online, and while i think 20-25 is a bit high, it CERTAINLY beats $100+. so theres that.its been a while since i had to work with one of these. needed to get an old door working again and i didnt want to replace the whole thing so i had to search out one of these. good news, although it was mentioned NOWHERE in the description, and it actually says that they are for a right hand door only, they are still easily switchable from right to left like in the old days. the bad news, they ARE STILL shipping them with flat head screws. that part i had hoped we, as a society, had advanced beyond.bottom line, while the footprint lined right up, the holes DID NOT, but it still saved me tons of work over replacing an entire old door.

As other reviewers have mentioned, when I received this lock set the keys supplied wouldn’t work the deadbolt. I opened the case and cleared away some extra metal (poorly made casting), then the keys worked. Also, I couldn’t thread the little set screw into one of the door knobs. I had to take my tap and die set, and chase the threads in the set screw hole on the knob, then I was finally able to insert the screw. I ended up with what seems like an OK lock set for the money (I’m using it on my home office door). Bottom line: if you’re the type of person who expects things to work out of the box, and who gets frustrated when they don’t, then you’d best steer clear of this product. However, if you’re mechanically inclined and don’t mind doing a bit of tinkering to fine tune things, then this may be an OK value for you. I’ll see how well this holds up under daily use!

Pros- it works and looks okCons- definitely on the cheaper side. Had to take it apart and fix the springs on the first time using. It’s very noisy when you turn the handle. Trying to keep things on budget and this fit the budget, so for that it works but definitely not a high end product, but I knew that.

I had to replace our old cast iron horizontal rim locks after a couple had broken. I did not want to spend a fortune. I just wanted to replace a functional piece of door hardware without having to drill more holes. These were as close to the originals I could find for the price! They are packaged in the form plastic which proved more difficult to open than the box. lol. but it was laid out clearly and easy to understand. I really wish the knob was available in other colors to match the hardware plates, but no matter. My only issue is that these are about a 1/8" off or so on the total dimensions of the hardware so I will have to fill old holes and re-do for the new set. Make note the screw holes will be offset if you are doing a replacement and you will need a drill. Next purchase will be a drill. lol. Otherwise it is great to find these so affordable. Granted not as heavy duty as the originals, but they will do!

Was pleasantly surprised with this lock set. Our old home had some that were painted over, didn't open or close smoothly and not all our doors matched. Bought some of these and they've worked well.

For the price, product is acceptable. It felt like a cheap steel lock, but closer examination of my original antique locks revealed similar construction. I have an old farm house that had the original locks had rusted to the point that they were inoperable. Product was a drop in replacement. One screw holds the lock coverplate on. The latch can be switched around for an opposite opening door by removing the coverplate, removing the latch spring, flipping the latch around, and replacing the spring, and resecuring the coverplate. A 1/8" drill bit is required for installing the flat head screws that mount the lock and striker plate, a 2564" drill bit is needed for drilling the handle shank. The skeleton key hole takes a slightly larger drill bit. Do not over tighten the door knobs on the shank or the latch will be hard to operate. Ensure the key and handle shank are aligned before drilling holds for the coverplate. The key will not lock the door from the outside, it only unlocks the door, if locked. The key will only lock the door from the inside. The latch has a lock, so the key is really unnecessary. If the latch is locked, the door must be unlocked from the inside, so that a child could lock you out. The key does not operate the door latch lock.
