Truth in Numbers

Truth in Numbers

Big theoretical performance numbers are certainly eye-catchers, but they are misleading when your workflow requires real-world speed. That’s why we take the extra time to run OWC flash storage solutions through intensive performance testing, and we share our test setup and parameters. Truthfully listing Atlas Pro CFexpress cards for reliable peak performance up to 3,000MB/s write, 3,600MB/s read, and up to 800MB/s sustained write speed defines our commitment to the “OWC Difference,” which ensures these CFexpress Type B cards will deliver the performance you are counting on.

ProUltra CFexpress cards and Innergize

1. Up to 3,000MB/s write / up to 3,650MB/s read peak performance was observed based on testing OWC Atlas Pro CFexpress cards in an Ableconn PEX-CF106 Adapter Card in a Gigabyte Aorus Master X570 motherboard with an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 4.9GHz CPU and 32GB RAM, in Windows 10 Pro using Crystal Disk Mark (1GB file size). Sustained write speeds up to 800MB/s were observed. Performance will vary depending on host hardware, software, usage, and Atlas Pro CFexpress card used.

Tested in Canon R5 camera without any negative issues. It holds still and videos, and with 3K read/write speeds, it is adequate for a day of shooting pics. Transfer of images via Thundbolt 4 capable computers, docks and equipment are fast. I have not any issues with slow data transfers, camera speeds with large files are as expected, without any issues of corruption. Works well and would recommend.

I work in production and buy equipment in bulk. I bought a total of 4 of these and one simply refuses to offload files at an acceptable transfer rate.. Emails to their customer service department went unanswered as did messages anywhere else I could send them a message.Had to use it again last night and I'm still offloading files now, so I'm taking the time to review these cards to steer people away from them.Included a photo for folks to see the speeds I'm talking about, and it does bounce lower and higher. The A cam with the exact same length and type of files had no issues offloading at 750mb/s and this one tops out at 5mb/s.All cards are formatted in camera and all other cards of all brands do not have this issue. OWC not responding is what prompted this so if you buy one and have the same issue, you're on your own. Buyer beware.

I've just ordered a third OWC Atlas Pro for my Nikon Z system. It's not that I need a lot of space or speed when I shoot, smaller and slower cards will work, but it's when I've got to download the files that the OWC cards really show their stuff.Being able to shoot on a reliable card for a few days on a project is another bonus. For what I photograph, I don't need a lot of speed as these are fast enough for 4K and shooting raw files at the max. That's easy to do. It's when you've got to download that the bottlenecks seem to make themselves known. Though a couple of my cameras in use do use SD cards, they are just so slow when I download. I don't have that issue with the OWC Atlas Pro when I've got to get the job done!

It reaches 1.2GB/s transfer rate from the card to the computer via USB 4 port or 600MB/s via USB 3.2 gen 2x2 port by the tests, which is much faster than my camera max transfer rate of 440MB/s. It will save the time to upload the data from the card into the computer.

Works great on my Nikon Z7ii, i have been using the the standard high speed SD cards for the past 2 weeks on this new camera, purchased this card for the larger slot… i shoot 100% raw photos, usually averaging 26-50mb per photo vs the much smaller JPeg files.. my camera was defaulted to use slot 1 first (SD Card) and when I went to transfer to my iPhone or iPad, it would take quite a while per picture… by mistake I left the SD out while shooting pics today and it reverted to the CF card. When I hooked it up to the reader and connected it to my phone, I was blown away at the difference in speed, I didn’t time it but for reference I downloaded 85 photos off the CF card in roughly the same time it would have taken to upload just one off of the SD.So I’m sold, the “high speed” rating written on the SD card is absolutely hysterical in hindsight. And yes it is 100% recommended to upgrade to this as a primary card if your camera is capable.Wow!….is all I have to add. Worth every penny!
