Had this installed by my mechanic and it works great and it saved me a couple hundred dollars instead of buying it from the dealer.

Heater core itself is super simple to remove and replace once the heater box is out, and comes with new foam gasket for the heater hose nipples. Getting the box out tho is an ordeal. Several videos show it being easy to do on a stripped down truck, but a highly optioned one is waaaaaaay more complicated and time consuming. Be prepared to spend some time if you have a center console or dual zone climate control as the ductwork to the rear (mega cab here) has to be removed from the passenger side in order to remove the box itself, as well as the passenger side wheel well/fender liner to access the last nut under the coolant bottle. None of that affects the simplicity of the heater core or it’s quality, just some info that may prove useful to the next person.

Purchased for a 2012 Ram 1500 with a 4.7L engine. There was a pool of fluid behind the right front wheel on my garage floor and the passenger side carpet was sopping wet. That can only mean a failed heater core. Prior to the failure, I noticed that the radiator level would fall by maybe a pint or so but wasn't able to locate the leak source until complete failure.I will grant that the heater core is easy to install (two sheet metal screws that hold the plastic front cover in place. Remove them, remove the plastic molded cover (included with the replacement unit) and slide the heater core out of the HVAC box) but you first have to remove the HVAC box from the truck and that is anything but easy, necessitating the removal of the dashboard first. It's a big job. This was a perfect fit, as I would expect from an OEM component. After putting everything back together and filling the cooling system, lots of heat with no leaks.

Digging in to this job, I went with the Mopar piece. Not a hard job. worst part is having to evacuate the AC and recharging it. If you aren't comfortable with AC work, get some help. This job is a lot easier with two people. All nuts and bolts.
