My second one in two years (guess I'm a fool). Previous one lasted only two weeks. It also gets so hot, I must place the unit on a plate to insure the wood floor doesn't get singed.

Doesn't go to fully dim. Will shut off too soon. Still good to cut down brightness, but this design is not up to par.

I use this in my guest bedroom for the bedside lights. No more getting up to switch off the lights by the door. The dimmer works excellently, unlike other wall dimmer switches that make noises, this one makes no sound at all. When you push the switch all the way up to shut off the power..you'll fill a click...the little green light comes on, which mades it easy to find the switch in the dark. Well thought out feature and great quality!

Light flickers constantly when you adjust to lower light settings. Received the item, saw how useless it was, tried to tinker around with it and other lights around the house for half an hour then put it straight into the trash all in the same day.

I purchased this item after reading online that you can use it to slow down a box fan. I have a standard inexpensive box fan that I purchased at a local big-box home improvement retailer. It works great, but even on it's lowest setting is very loud. Plugging the fan into this dimmer allows me to slow it way down where it's almost inaudible. I say "almost" because the unfortunate side effect of slowing down the fan motor is a constant hum from the unit. It's still preferable to the loud fan, but takes a little getting used to.Also, be aware that the packaging warns not to use this dimmer with any motorized product to prevent overheating. I was a little nervous about using it with the fan because of this, but I've kept a very close eye on both the dimmer and the fan motor and they remain constantly cool, so I don't think it's going to be a problem.

This was exactly what I wanted. The light dims to a near glow and has a nice gradual gliding switch that goes up to bright light. The big drawback is that you have to use an incandescent bulb, otherwise you don't get a good dim (only goes to what I call "less bright"), the transitions are jumpy from less bright to bright and the bulb hums. All of those problems go away with a traditional bulb. The tabletop control has a nice firm grip on the nightstand but doesn't stick or damage the table top. The cord is a good length and the green light that comes on when the switch is off is not obnoxious but is bright enough to help you find the light in the dark. I've been using this light daily for about a month and would highly recommend it.
