Works well for all my blacksmith small pieces and small knives. Secure it down or in a frame or it will walk around and tip itself over.

I bought this 13 months ago, with the sole purpose of tumbling rocks. The barrel wore out around 40-50 hours in, but I think it's because I used coarse grit. I modified it to use plastic buckets, which seem to last around 80-100 hours each (while being seriously overloaded. Like 15lbs at a time)It shook a few screws out of itself a few weeks ago, and the motor bearings failed this morning. I've got new bearings on order from Amazon. Considering that I put several hundred hours on it, I'd say it's a pretty solid unit. Except for the barrel, that part died quick.

This is not to be used as a rock tumbler. Not sturdy enough.

Easy to use and stable tumbler. I use it to clean brass casings prior to reloading and it works great. Very stable while running, can sit on the work bench and all the vibration stays with the unit itself, does not transmit to the bench or other items on the bench. Also this unit does not “wander” while in use. It can be on gor two hours and stay where it started. Very satisfied with it.

I bought this Vibratory Bowl Tumbler recently for a small and specific project, and it did the trick. Based on the color scheme and the amazing manual I was suspicious that this is actually manufactured for a major retailer, and I was right! On the last page (or so) of the manual, it is revealed that this is actually a MasterCraft unit, just de-branded.The package contains the tumbler and 4 bags of media. After thoroughly reading the manual it's fairly apparent why the other reviewers units failed. It states a few times in the manual that you're not supposed to use ceramic, or any liquids in it. It also has a list of approved media, which I suggest you follow. As well, be aware that this is rated for UP TO 5 POUNDS INCLUDING THE MEDIA. You need to include the media! Now, the included crushed walnut shells are good for cleaning and a light polish, but if you want to deburr or something heavier you'll need appropriate media, purchased separately. As for noise, I am fairly certain that most complaints of excess noise are caused by either not fastening the top down sufficiently, or overloading the unit.Full stars from me.

Not for rocks. At all. Fell apart almostImmediately. Received an immediate refund. Might be a great tumbler for reloads and jewelry. But it is NOT FOR ROCKS, no matter what the description says.

From the first 2-3 hours the top started to sheer off and deform the cover...Will make an exchange and try a second unit to see if this was based on a faulty one i received

I purchased this tumbler to clean up bolts and small parts for my C10 project, and the reason i specifically purchased this one because it was priced the same as a local tool store, except they didn't have them in stock.I used green pyramid shaped cutting media that are supposed to be thread friendly, the tumbler worked great, i would like to try a few other media types to see how they work with this machine in the future.I didn't expect the tumbler to be quiet by any means, and it could have been the media i used, but it was so annoying I had to put it in a separate room in the garage so i didn't have to listen to it (but my neighbors did haha)If you need a tumbler like this, i would recommend this one, I had no issues arise during use, and i let it run for at least 8 hrs straight one Saturday. My one and only complaint is the wing nut, If i had to design a way to secure the lid i would have found a way to incorporate some sort of quick access latch rather than the air cleaner style of cover hold down.

I knew it wasn't a rock polisher when I bought it. The reviews make that clear. Surprisingly, the machine says right on it "not for rock polishing" so they, too, know it isn't for rock polishing.I bought it to polish/finish automotive hardware. I do a lot of restoration work and I never put on a dirty or rusty bolt. This tumbler works well for cleaning up rusty or ugly bolts/nuts and other hardware.I am using it with medium grit coal slag. I add half the tumbler's height in coal slag, then toss in hardware and let it run overnight. It will remove the grit from threads and the rust from the outer edges of bolts and nuts. Won't do much for the threads on nuts though. Different media will clean parts differently. It comes with two bags of walnut shells so I think it's original intent was for polishing brass casings. Keep that original intent in mind when you buy it and you'll be happier with it.The other reviews make it seem like a cheap, bad product. I didn't have that experience. The basin is plenty thick enough, maybe 2mm thick, the finish on the base is good and it tumbles quietly. Don't know what more you want from it?I'm giving it 5-stars because its a good product. I'm not dinging it for the seller's misguided description since I went into the purchase knowing it wasn't a rock tumbler.

Ugh there is a lot to unpack with this purchase. I've been looking for a vibratory rock tumbler and unfortunately been finding that most of the tumblers for sale on amazon are not meant for rocks. I went into this purchase knowing that this product did not have great reviews, but I am always willing to give products without a ton of reviews a second chance in case it was disgruntled users and misuse. So I purchased it to give it a try. There were some reviewers saying that the manual said to not use the product for rocks, but the listing did say it was a rock tumbler and the seller did keep telling buyers they could use it for rocks, so I was hoping that the word of the seller was gold. It was not. When I looked at the manual after it arrived it lined up with what other buyers were saying. I decided to give it a try anyways since the seller insisted it could be used with rocks in the questions and title. I even went easy on it only filling it 1/6 of the way up so that I did not overwhelm it with weight. I turned it on and all sounded well for the first few hours. Then the sound of the tumbler suddenly intensified. I went out to check on it and it had flung it's self off the flat surface it was on, destroyed the barrel and top and spewed sludge across the entire work space. I honestly should have taken a picture of the carnage, it was intense. So after a several hour clean up and a product return (that I must say did go very smoothly!) I have learned my lesson. This tumbler might work for metal, but it definitely does not work for rocks!
