We wanted to have a flag in our yard without a permanent installation. This was perfect for our purposes. It is of high quality and can be removed to mow the lawn and then replaced easily. We live in a very windy region and it is very sturdy even in high winds.

This thing is awesome! It mounts my large umbrella like it's set in stone. If you're fortunate to be able to screw it in among some tree roots, it's even more solid. Great design, heavy duty materials. Great price!!

Just used it today for a Ham Radio outing at a State Park. The narrow bottom half is perfect for making a small hole in the soil that can easily be covered back up when I was done. The screw part seems to be welded all along the screw. It has decent powder-coating black paint. I will assume that if this gets scratched and scraped in a way that might wear away the black paint, that it will immediately cause that surface to start rusting, so I will try not to scrape it.The ground was dry and it turned just fine down about 9 inches which was good enough to hold my 17 foot MFJ antenna (a very thin telescopic aluminum mast). The ground screw came with a turning-bar to press down and turn, however I had a scrap 1/4-inch galvanized pipe 12 inches long that did just fine turning the screw. I used the supplied 17 inch turning-bar as a centering device since it inserts all the way to the bottom (through the internal insert in the bottom half of the screw) and has nice small plastic end-caps. The turning-bar has a diameter of 0.618 inches (15.7mm), so, if it ever gets bent, you can always replace it with an 17 or 18 inch long 1/4 inch iron or galvanized pipe to do the same job, since that pipe is 0.540 inches (13.716mm) in diameter.The centering screws at the top were too small to center a 1.05 inch diameter pipe (called a 3/4 inch galvanized pipe with NPT male threads) shoved down the center of the screw (as if it were the beach umbrella mast). I went to the hardware store and tested the allen-head screw as 8mm-coarse about 3/4 inches long. So I bought three hex-head 40mm-long by 8mm-coarse screws and they work great. The turning-bar repurposed as a centering device for the 3/4 galvanized pipe worked well, keeping the larger pipe perfectly centered.Besides the centering screws being allen-head type and not being long enough, I also found the ground screw itself would not go down any farther than 9 inches. I assume for now that if I used this in sand at a beach that it would go down a little farther, but for my application, the 9 inches down was good enough since I use bungee cords to guy the MFJ mast if it gets windy. The MFJ mast is very light and not like a heavy umbrella. Not sure how this screw would work with an umbrella in sand but it really needs to go down further into sand if it were to hold up a heavy umbrella - something to research from other buyers before you buy this!Not sure how this will stand up to abuse but for now it is working for my very light Ham Radio mast in a temporary day-use application.
