Many new trucks come with a soft/slow opening tailgate. The Nissan Frontier does not. This kit allows you to convert it to a soft/slow open one. It only takes 15+ minutes to install with the proper tools. I would also recommend the hood kit. You can watch several YouTube videos on installing both of these kit. They make a very nice addition to your truck.

In general it works, but the retaining tab is too weak. It bends and then the strut comes off the top pin. I removed the tab and secured the strut by adding 4 washers. 2 that fit inside the large loop. That works pretty good. The other thing I noticed is that the strut is a little too strong. So the gate takes a while to come down. And I don't want to force it. Since it could damage the supports.

Cheap product. Ours snapped same day. Shipped back for refund (we paid).Unfortunately the only tail gate assist for the frontier. A stronger build would be nice. It was good for the first few opens lol.

It sure is nice to install something easy, that works. My only complaint is that the little metal clip that holds the shock on at the top, easily pops off and needs a few zip ties to hold it in place. Something mentioned in other reviews here.~~~5 months later.Initially I gave this 5 stars. Today it's gets a -5 stars because it snapped at it's base. Looking at it closely, it appears to be a cheap pot metal casting that should NOT be used in this type of support shock/strut

I own a Nissan Frontier and these pickup trucks are notorious for their heavy tailgates. To the point where they could injure a small child if the child were to try and open the tailgate.I purchased one shock and it arrived promptly.Prior to installing the shock I watched several install videos on YouTube, which was very helpful.The install went quickly, less then 10 minutes. The shock doesn't immediately kick in, as the tailgate freefalls the first 4 or 5 inches then the shock abruptly catches the tailgate. I have concerns that the silver metal plate won't be durable, time will tell.I do recommend this product because it will reduce the risk of this heavy tailgate.

update nov 8 2021 . bought nov 11 2020Mine broke today , and I can see from others that this is a problem . Maybe Amazon should setup and look into the fail rate and the that customer's have to pay shipping on a defective product . It's not the way to do business and not the way to get repeat business

was christmas gift for stepdad. he installed on 27th, broke (snapped) on the 28th. He went to show me and the metal snapped right off. installed correctly on just the one side that they tell you, but the metal is too cheap to support small truck tailgate. contacted seller for return will updateUPDATE: seller requires YOU to pay return shipping on an item that is faulty and in my case, broke in 1 day. Terrible company

Great product! Wish it caught a little sooner instead of dropping suddenly for a second and then going slowly. Would be ice if it assisted with lifting the tailgate as well like their competitors did. Edit: stupid little metal piece keeps calling off and making the piston get jammed onto the screw and scratching my truck... Super annoying!

Easy to install but also comes off if you close the tailgate fast, the truck attachment tab bends very easily I would like one stronger option I removed mine and will eventually modify it later when I have time
