These are good beginners paddles. Started playing about 8 months ago and find they are good for my ability. Probably not great for experienced/good players, but great for newbies

This is my second paddle and compared to the starter kit with wooden paddles this is a huge improvement in how light it is and how nice it feels. Recommend for any beginner - skip the cheap wooden paddles. You won't regret this purchase.

I bought this pair of GoSports GS1 pickleball paddles for $40 after-Thanksgiving/black Friday sale (regular $50) for my parents who are just starting out in pickleball. I tried them out and they feel like an upgrade from the super beginner wood paddles, but I personally don't like them. I probably can't explain it as well as an advanced pickleballer, but I feel like they have dead spots. A player who tried them (he's easily 5.0) said they feel like wood paddles. To me they are LOUD when hitting the pickleball. My background: I've only been playing pickleball for 3 months with 3.0 to 4-ish players but have played competitive tennis in the past.I've played with other players' higher end Engage 14mm, Selkirk 14mm, Legacy Pro 16mm and CRBN 16mm paddles. I have so far bought 3 lesser known, mid-price ($40 to $61 deals) carbon fiber paddles because I'm not ready yet to spend $150+ for just 1 paddle, being new to pickleball. To me, the difference between the pair of GS1 and my carbon fiber paddles are night and day. I think it's because the GS1 is not carbon fiber. My husband played tennis recreationally in the past and could tell the difference in paddles but not right away, and he doesn't think the GS1 is as beginner-ish as I do. My beginner parents have never tried any other pickleball paddles so of course they said it's fine. I do prefer 16 mm and the GS1's are thinner than that, so that could be PARTLY why I don't like the GS1's.They've only been used about 4 times but they do seem very sturdy; I do like that aspect of the GS1s. If my parents ever upgrade to better paddles, they can keep these to loan to other beginner friends of theirs. That's how confident I am that the GS1's will last.I also own the Go Sports Pro pickleball paddle, and the Go Sports pickleball net (see my review for that), both of which seem very sturdy as well. I am MUCH more satisfied with the GoSports PRO paddle but it costed more, $61 on sale (~$71 regular price) vs. $20 on sale (regular price twenty five dollars) for each GS1 paddle.

As a 4.0+ player reviewed these with eyes of a beginner. They are geared towards power vs control and have quality construction which will allow beginners to work on form without worrying about getting the ball across the net. The ball quality is relative to a Franklin x-40 and holds up well. You can put some decent spin and their lightweight provides great hand speed in battles. Some asked if these were a higher end brand but I let them know it was a beginner set. Others tried and liked them and could see how beginners would benefit from their quality construction. As they are power focused it is important to swing and punch a bit softer to keep the ball in play. For the price and performance this set will serve many beginners well.
