Bought it for 6 year old grandson birthday. Works really well with nerf gun . He can use it outdoors and indoors. Indoors will be great so he doesn’t try shooting at 2 year old sister. He and his friends love it and the sounds it makes.

DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU HAVE THE NERF RIVAL GUN! THIS MAT WON'T WORK FOR ANY OTHER NERF GUNS

So I know this said it's meant for Nerf Rival Guns, but I really wanted to see what would happen with the Nerf darts. I tested this with a few Zombie Strike guns (Elite darts) and sure enough the targets weren't tripped no matter how close I was. Some of our other Elite guns shoot harder (esp when you use lithium batteries instead of alkaline...), but that really didn't seem to matter. I then tried out a couple of our Mega guns and all the ones I tried were able to trip the targets even from 20-30 ft. No issues with any of our Rival guns (spring or motor driven). The limitation might be size... Sorry, no Ultra guns yet to try. That's on my son's Christmas list this year. Both modes of play are pretty fun. I was challenging myself in the timed mode to test the Rival guns. See which one I'm better at using. The reason I knocked off a star is the player and mode selection "buttons". These are present on the target mat and not the scoring/speaker/display piece. I'm not sure the reasoning for this, but a bad shot could potentially reset your turn. I expect the idea was that you'd shoot the player number to start your turn, but this seems like a poor choice as well. The targets for mode and player are quite small (not much bigger than a Rival ball) and close together, so if that was the intention I can see accidental mode changes happening.
