I installed these on a 2015 SL400 with an automatic trunk lid. They lasted about 45 days before I got frustrated and purchased OE Stabilis struts. The thing is, the Stabilis struts are only about twice as much, but they work. I thought I would try the BOXI brand because I've used them before on different cars. I guess the Mercedes trunk is just too heavy as the trunk won't go all the way up and stay up if the ambient temperature is below 45°F. When I bought these, Stabilis brand struts were not offered on the Amazon site, so I went to my reliable on-line automotive parts merchant.

Surprise 1: These struts arrived via FedEx much quicker than stated. By almost a week. I bought these because my 2017 SL450 started to try and guillotine my head off after a few seconds of bring open and while putting groceries in the trunk. (I know you guys don't drive your SL to pick up groceries, but I do). I actually didn't expect too much. For the price they were listed I thought it wouldn't hurt to give them a try. It was still chapter than the $100 deductible on my extended warranty to get them fixed.Surprise 2: I watched a couple YT videos on how to install them and it was so quick and easy, it took longer to watch the long winded guys on the video than it was to do the actual install. No kidding, took about 5 mins to install them. They look and function exactly like the MB OEM struts.Surprise 3: It completely fixed my guillotine trunk issue and after I overcome my PTSD of whacking my head every time I use the trunk I'm looking forward to enjoying grocery shopping again.

It is expensive if the hydraulic raise and lower arms go out on a Mercedes power trunk but this is piece of cake to change and low cost to keep the trunk up when removing or putting in luggage. I would never have thought these two did all the work they do with the others non operational. Well worth investing in this repair and easy to do as a DIY.
