This is a review of the bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack Airback Backpack with Pump Airplane Approved Vacpack Backpack for Women Men Carry On Airbag. The bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack is spacious, made of (very) durable materials, and versatile in the range of compartments it has.For me, although it works well, and very quickly, the vacuum compression feature is not really worth the bother involved in using it and having to keep track of the tool to make this feature work.It is important to me that the bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack is water-resistant (although it is not, as claimed, waterproof).Because of its versatility and especially its durability, I would consider ordering the bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack again if I need another bag like this.See below for details, and see attached photos.Recommended.YOU SHOULD KNOWI ordered the bluterm in black, but is it also available in “gray-brown”.DIMENSIONSI measured the bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack to be (when empty):11 cm (D) x 32 cm (W) x 44 cm (H)PROS - WHAT I LIKE1. The vacuum feature works very well, and very, very quickly2. The “high-quality waterproof nylon” material the bluterm is made from seems to be unusually tough for one of these backpacks (most of them are good, but the bluterm is particularly impressive in this regard)3. The bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack’s straps are fairly good quality: they are densely padded (although not thick), which is good considering that back pack straps can get easily compressed over time; the straps are also a good width - 6.9cm wide4. I really like that the bluterm backpack has a releasable clasp which stretch across your chest, from one shoulder strap to another, and which therefore hold the shoulder straps more closely together: releasable clasps are a great way of (a) keeping a backpack more securely ‘attached’ to one’s body, which is (b) better for one’s back and posture when you have a weight on your back5. The main compartment is quite spacious (although the sealed “vacuum compression” ‘bag’ takes up a fair bit of space)6. The bluterm’s fabric is water resistant (but not waterproof - the zippers let water in)7. There are plenty of pockets on the bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack:(a) ‘Half sized’, waterproof lined pocket on the front flap of the backpack (suitable for a toothbrush, face cloth or other articles which are wet)(b) Full-sized waterproof pocket behind that (still on the front flap of the backpack)(c) Shoe Bag compartment accessible at the bottom of the bag(d) A series of pockets (Mesh/Netting, Pen holders etc.) on the inside of the top flap (i.e., in the Main Compartment)(e) Main Compartment(f) Laptop pocket (on the back of the bluterm)(g) Anti-theft / ‘Privacy’ pocket on the lower third of the back of the bluterm (the area that would come in to contact with your lower back8. Even though the bluterm is not truly waterproof, the fabric and pockets are water resistant enough to keep their contents dry on a day of light-to-medium rain (if the zippers are not exposed to a lot of rain)CONS - WHAT I DO NOT LIKE1. No backpack like this can really be waterproof, because zips will let water in, so I am disappointed that bluterm claims the Vacuum Travel Backpack is “waterproof” instead of water-resistantI tested how the bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack would cope with water [e.g., on a hike, camping] by emulating the kind of soaking the backpack would get by being caught in a heavy downpour by running the knapsack under a tap of running water for a few seconds, making sure to expose the zippers to water, as well as the other parts of the backpack - as I expected, the bluterm let water in through the zippers2. The water bottle pocket (on one side of the backpack) is disappointingly small, despite it being somewhat expandable - you can fit a small-to-average water bottle in this pocket, but my small-ish thermos (with a circumference of 23.7cm) is far too big for this pocket3. Although useful, the bluterm Vacuum Travel Backpack’s Shoe “compartment” is not really a compartment in the sense that it is not a pocket isolated from the rest of the backpack - i.e., the shoe compartment’s lining extends into the bluterm’s (large) main compartmentEven though you do not have to use this Shoe compartment at all - you can use the whole of the main compartment if you like - some might find it a disadvantage that the Shoe Bag Area is not a proper, self-contained compartment4. While I like the releasable clasp, it does tend to ride up so that it is at throat-level, which is not idea from a comfort perspective5. Most backpack / travel bags of this type have a removable carrying strap, or even just the lugs to attach a strap to, in case you want to sling the backpack across one shoulder and carry it on your hip - but the blueterm lacks both of these6. The hand-tool (which you use to suck air out of the vacuum compression compartment) could be considered bulky, and it could also be easily lost - even having a clip to (optionally) attach it to another clip inside the bluterm would go part way to addressing this situation
