Vendor Bagean offers this 4-pack of charcoal-laden air filters indicated to work in specific Winix Plasmawave filter units. We purchased two such units (5500 model) from the Amazon marketplace. The advertising states that these are "compatible" and "replacement" filters for the model 5500 charcoal pre-filters.This is not exactly correct. As indicated in the photos, the actual OEM charcoal prefilter for the Model 5500 unit is a hard shell honeycomb plastic filter that features charcoal pellets loaded into each honeycomb chamber. That rigid charcoal-rich prefilter then fits into the 5500 filter unit.Despite the several advertising photos that show this Bagean filter standing upright on its own, the actual filters received are thin, folded mesh filters sheets infused with charcoal with no firmness or thickness to them and no capability of being able to stand on their own. They "work" in the Model 5500 filter because they are thin filter sheets cut to the same external dimensions of the OEM hard shell prefilters so that they can fit into the same space within the filter unit.We give these thin wafer sheet filters 3 stars because they do fit into the 5500 unit and they do contain charcoal and they are inexpensive. They are not "replacement" filters in the true sense of the word, but they are an inexpensive option.
