About this item

  • Generation 2 THOR designed to be the highest performing 1/2" impact wrench on the market
  • Maintains a short length like the original Astro THOR impact wrench but with several improvements
  • Rated 1,020 ft-lbs traditional Max Torque (compare to 1650 nut-busting) thanks to a larger motor and greatly increased air passageways in the handle and trigger feeding it
  • New linear trigger allows for more throttle adjustment and feathering compared to previous 2-stage trigger
  • New slightly widened THOR hammer texture handle with top hump flattened for a more comfortable grip, and roll-pin hole removed for less air leak opportunities

With over 40 years of importing product into the U.S. Automotive Aftermarket, Astro Pneumatic Tool Co. offers several product categories for one-stop shopping. Our products under our own brand name “ASTRO” include the popular tool and equipment classics, as well as innovative new items.

Owned it since October 2024.Used daily for reefing on bushing & joint presses, and pulling 1-5/16" tractor and truck lugs off. Oiled daily, greased regularly. Gun now bypasses in Forward, shooting air straight out the exhaust under any load above 60ft.lb (I've tested this). The speed selector backs out during use, to where #2 is my #3 setting, #1 is my #2 setting, etc. It's honestly a piece of junk now. Other people have disassembled and snugged it back down to the air chuck with red loctite, I personally don't want to give Astro any reasons to deny warranty doing this.I'm going to try and see if Astro will help at all with warranty. As it stands right now, it looks like I need to ship it to their shop in California, and wait however long for them to deem it "warranty" or for them to tell me I need to pay up for repairs. I'll update my review based on how their service goes.Highly recommended to just pay an extra $100 for the IR 2235Ti, or Aircat 1200K. Sure, might not hit has hard. TTC won't oogle and fangirl over those guns the same way. But you won't be stranded 6 months after purchase like you will with this Astro gun. It will hit as hard as you need it to, and you'll have a genuinely reliable tool for a good chunk of your career unlike this Thor G2.Disappointed. Cool while it lasted. My gen 1 Thor is still holding up strong and I've owned it since day 1 of release. If I didn't have a backup, I'd be real pissed off.

Awesome air impact wrench. Extremely powerful, impressive. A must buy.

Seems well made and I haven't found a bolt it won't loosen. I have a small compressor so I'm not getting the full oomph out of it, but still does well. Use it for automotive mostly.

Bought this to replace my tired tool truck 1/2” impact. Was pleasantly surprised, compact and packs a punch.Unfortunately, after 7 months of daily use it’s not holding up.The directional switch started binding, requiring a tap of a socket or extension to get it to move. Extremely frustrating when trying to work an uncooperative fastener back and forth. Now the speed adjustment will not move without first loosening the air adapter nut.I take care of my tools, this impact has been oiled daily and greased weekly. Completely stripped and cleaned it with no improvement.I own multiple Astro tools and find they often perform better than anything you’ll find on a tool truck. Sad to say I’ve gone back to my 10 year old impact and my Thor G2 is collecting dust.

Strong gun. The more air you feed the gun the happier it is. Very strong a bit heavier then most but it’s not a everyday weapon, only when more power is needed

It took about 2 weeks of heavy use for the selector to work properly but it's the most powerful gun in the shop. If it isn't coming loose it's gonna snap in half. Beware when using at high pressure (160 psi) it actually hurts the hand with how hard it hits

I am an auto tech for 15 plus years it is one of the best impacts i have owned. It's a bit stiff when new like the direction button/switch is hard to move over bit after a while it gets better. Has amazing amounts of power even on setting 1 and 2. A little heavy but that was expected feels solid. Very satisfied.

Impact is very powerful and quiet but the trigger is very sensitive. Still great to have around for larger repairs but not the best for tires etc..

I follow Torque Test Channel on YouTube. They gave the Thor impact wrench one of the highest rated torque specs on the market. The person who hosts Torque Test Channel said that he even helped develop the impact wrench himself so I thought it was a no brainer. I am a 310T apprentice. I was taking out anchor pins on a tanker trailer which requires a lot of torque and the gun could not handle it. After a few minutes of pressing out the anchor pins, the gun stopped working and just started blowing air out of the exhaust port. Whenever I need it for a job that requires a good amount of torque it proceeds to only blow air out of the exhaust port.I contacted Astro regarding the issue and they gave me multiple solutions to the problem. None of the solutions worked. I contacted Astro again and they did not respond. The impact wrench has a 1 year warranty and it only lasted 4 months. Save your money and buy technology that has been proven to work. Many of the certified mechanics at my work have had Air Cat impact wrenches for 10 years plus: sounds better than 4 months and dealing with a company that does not stay true to their word.Update: Astro heard my complaints and gave me a new impact wrench to replace the broken one. I will update my review again once it has been tested.

Needed a new impact to replace my 40 year old gun. Bought it to reach higher torque for rebuilding hydraulic cylinders to torque cylinder piston bolt of 450+ ft. lbs. of torque. Worked great right out of box. Light weight makes it easy to handle. Have only used it for a couple jobs, but so far love it.

Any nut or bolt does not stand a chance...if it doesn't turn...it will break.

This impact gun is a great bang for your buck if other reviews are true. I just got one and haven't had a chance to use it yet. It's got quite a good amount of heft to it and it has a lot of torque free spinning.
