Additional to being very cute, these terracotta (earthenware clay) watering spikes are your best bet for watering plants if you are not around for a few days. The porous clay provides a wicking effect by the surrounding soil. Standard watering globes can often release water too quickly or can plug with dirt/soil and render the globes practically useless. There are different varieties of globes and spikes but these terracotta ones are pretty well the only ones which will assure you of a slow and steady release of water, giving you confidence that your plants will receive sufficient water during your short absence of a few days.You will see in one of my photos that the spikes are all in a bowl because the product information states that you should soak them prior to use for about 15 minutes. You also have the option of either filling the watering spike with water or you can insert a bottle into it filled with water.Take note that these are available in four different styles but each holds a different amount of water: 90 ml., 100 ml. 140 ml. and 400 ml.I would definitely recommend these watering spikes for your plants.
