Really glad I brought this unit. Ikari Warriors was not the same with a console controller. This joystick changes that totally. For the assembly, go to YouTube for videos. A lot easier than the instructions provided. It honestly wasn't too hard. Just take your time. The SNK 40th Anniversary pack was no longer under Amazon Prime Games but found it on a site called GOG. Working perfectly. Feel like I'm back at the Arcade. It's the only way to recreate the Ikari experience.

Couldn’t wait to get this but disappointed within twenty mins of starting the installation. The signal wire inside the joystick shaft dislodged from its connector and because the shaft is all in one piece there is zero chance of connecting it back up. You can see the tiny connector half way up the shaft but you have diddly squat of a chance in reconnecting it.A really really bad design flaw that has now rendered the whole kit useless and I’m far from happy. There is zero mention of how easy it is for this to occur in the manual and there’s no mention of how easy it is to fall at the first hurdle on any tutorial videos I’ve seen. I’m not a heavy handed noob either but this really really sucks. I reached out to Thunderstick for advice as they sell this kit as well and well Amazon wouldn’t have a clue to be fair. Their response was that the signal wire must have broken off in the shaft and it’s rare to have this happen. Well it didn’t break as it’s just come out away from its connector and I very much doubt it’s a rarity. Here’s a major tip - make sure you fit the joystick LAST as Glen points out in his video otherwise you’ll be balancing this damn thing all other the show trying to align it up with the box lid. Also, get a AtGames legends gamer mini casing from ‘buystuff.com’ and get the Ikari Warriors overlay that they will fit for you. It’s fantastic and miles better than the cardboard box.So to end, the actually quality of the GRS Super Joystick is pretty good apart from the glaring issue above which really lets it down but the buttons suck as they’re just cheapo standard issue ones. I think all the effort and QA has been put into the actual joystick so just buy some Sanwa buttons and do this right if you’re going to do it at all.At the end of the day what do you want for $90 or so? Well, a joystick that isn’t going to fall apart as soon as you look at it would be good for a start! Not really a quality issue more that it’s too delicate to not mention it in the manual and raise general awareness of this.Apart from that I can’t really fault the packaging and the overall quality vs price ratio is well priced. It’s just left me with a bitter taste in my mouth as I’ve had to buy another kit such was the wanton desire to get this working. More fool me for growing up in the 80’s and spending stupid money on a never ending retro gaming habit…..but there you go!All in all, just a bit of a head scratcher this one. It depends on how much you want a rotary joystick I guess vs the hassle.

As i was removing a wire from the positive terminal the metal from the button slid out. I tried to slide it back in but it was going in with firm pressure. It seems the terminations on the wires are really tight. I tried to pull a few others off and 1 came off easily and the other's cannot be remove without damaging the terminal on the button.Update a week later:The tutorials for mame to use Mame2010 which has a known bug not to save analog settings (you'll have to set them up every time). Half the time the joystick isn't even being recognized (even if the mode button is illuminated). Some tutorials have you set the mode in red mode some in green mode.Even after getting it "working" rotating the joystick seems to work but will reset your character facing front every now and then. Downgrading to 1 star.

The instruction manual is horrible and mostly useless. You have to watch the videos on the internet. The most frustrating is tha the wires are not all numbered and they need to be precisely set up properly or othewise SNK 40th anniversary game will not work properly.I had many real arcade at home and worked for 5 years in that domain so I know a lot about arcde, but this thing is the perfect thing for an amateur to learn about how joysticks works and how they are made. This thing may be the beginning of a passion for many users that will want to RICE this thing. The only thing that I hate is that with the "free" moving top, there is zero resistance and that is not right. Also the mouse mode does not offer a continuous mode, so the mouse will move with stutter.

Everything in this joystick is well made. The inclusion of the 4-way/square and round direction plates is very handy. My only complaint is that the joystick itself it too loose and it doesn't self center very well. There doesn't seem to be a way for a user to adjust that.
