Tried to use these on my 1970 Beetle. I ended up replacing them after two months with the TRW brand. These were extremely tight from the beginning and never loosened up at all. Once they were installed in the torsion arms these joints would barely move. Once fully assembled it made turning the steering wheel a chore. It was extremely had to turn and showed no signs of loosening after 2 months of use. From what I have read these joints are too large for the holes torsion arms and once installed they are compressed causing them to be to tight. With the spindle removed I was not able to move them by hand. I had to hit them with a rubber mallet to get them to move around. I removed them and threw them away. If you are looking for new ball joints for your VW then I would suggest going with the TRW brand (JBJ654 and JBJ653). They are available on amazon and work a lot better.

Once again Amazon comes through in price and shipping time. All of the local parts stores barely stock anything for my '73 VW Karmann Ghia so I use Amazon a lot as they seem to always have the best price and free shipping as I am always spending over $25. Part was just as described, came in its Moog box and was sealed in its plastic bag inside. In addition there is a hard blue plastic cover to protect the boot during shipping. The old ball joint came out and the new one went in with the aid of a press. The boot seems very durable and I am hoping it lasts a long time. All of the other aspects of the ball joint seemed to be the same high quality Moog parts are known for despite being made in China. We will see how it holds up over time but for now I am very happy with it.
