LSA exhaust stud broken slightly below the surface in aluminum head. Tried welding a nut several times (have never had luck with this trick- maybe I need a 240V welder). Tried left hand drill bits which I used to drill slightly off center hole almost all the way through the bolt. Tried Harbor Freight spiral extractors which bit a little before letting go. The spirals were ruined after one attempt. Then I tried this Hanson tool. Bit hard on first attempt. Used a deep socket against the head to stay parallel and not side load the extractor. Took some real force- had to secure the head from moving on the bench - but it came out!Note the second picture is the tool AFTER use. Not even a scratch on it. And it wasn’t easy to get it out of the broken bolt. The bolt would spin in the vice while turning clockwise to remove the tool.

It’s the only Ez out I use, don’t skip out on these. Buy them! Don’t use the skinny ones that may break off in a screw.-Aircraft Structure Mechanic
